Self-serve car wash costs and timer rates
On this page
For a timed self-serve wash, compare how many seconds you receive for the price. The starting charge alone does not tell you what an eight- or ten-minute wash will cost.
Compare published timer rates
| Location | Published self-serve rate | Cost per minute at that rate |
|---|---|---|
| Jurassic — Potranco | $1 for 90 seconds | About $0.67 |
| Jurassic — Marbach | $1 for 100 seconds | $0.60 |
Sources: the operators’ Potranco and Marbach pages, checked October 12, 2026. The minute costs are our arithmetic, not separate prices quoted by the operator.
Estimate your time cost
Calculate planned minutes × 60 ÷ seconds per dollar. At those listed rates, eight minutes works out to about $5.33 at Potranco or $4.80 at Marbach. Actual payment can differ because of starting minimums, purchase increments or card rules.
If time must be bought in full $1 blocks, round the number of blocks up. Confirm those billing rules at the bay rather than assuming the proportional calculation is the amount charged.
Check the minimum and included time
Mighty Clean lists a $3 self-serve starting charge, but its reviewed page does not state the time included. That information is needed before comparing its timer cost with the two examples above.
Before starting, check the posted minimum, payment method and timer display. Ask whether changing functions or pausing the wand changes the timer. Leave time to finish the rinse within your budget.
Budget for separate services
Vacuums can have their own timer and charge. A complimentary service may depend on buying a wash or using a specific membership. Check the terms at the actual location.
Compare San Antonio’s listed washes or Tucson’s self-serve locations, then check the operator’s current rules before visiting.
